Dillip Satapathy in Bhubaneswar

The officials of Hindalco, which is in race for take over of National Aluminium Company, were heckled on Monday at the public sector company's plant sites at Angul and Damanjodi in Orissa.

The Hindalco officials, who had come for pre-bid visit of Nalco facilities, had to return without completing their job.

Sources said, a ten member technical team of Hindalco arrived at Angul this morning for visit of the Nalco's smelter and captive power plant located there, the local Congress workers protesting against the privatisation of the company obstructed their entry into the plant premises.

They also pelted stones at the vehicles carrying the Hindalco officials .

Similarly, at Damanjodi, where mining and alumina refinery of Nalco are located, a group of 200 protesting workers entered the office building, where Hindalco team was holding discussions with the Nalco officials about the company facilities and started heckling the visitors.

The Central Industrial Security Force personnel deployed at the plant escorted the Hindalco team members out of the premises.

Hindalco is the first company to start the pre-bid plant visit on the invitation of the government which is going ahead with strategic sale of the Nalco despite opposition from several quarters.

The government has shortlisted 15 companies from among those participated in the 'expression of interest' bid as serious bidders for Nalco.

All of them are expected complete the plant visit exercise over the next one month before going for the technical and financial bid.
