India, China together can become world No 1 in IT: Zhu

In a significant initiative, Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji on Thursday proposed that India and China work together and promote each other in the Information Technology sector and "make progress together".

"You are number one in software. We are number one in hardware. If we put hardware and software together, we are world's number one", Zhu said in his address at the Infosys Campus at the Electronics City on the outskirts of Bangalore.

He noted that India had been widely recognised in the world as a very advanced nation in IT.

"You (India) are number one in software exports. China is left far behind", Zhu said.

Noting that IT sector was growing very rapidly, he said China had all the advantages to develop the IT sector like India. "Like you, we have lunched a strategy of revitalising our nation through science and education".

The visiting leader said, "Your (India's) achievements overall in terms of technology and economy, your achievements, have made us, your friendly neighbour, very proud".

China and India were two largest developing economies, both with long history and ancient civilisation and commitment to economic development and improving living standards, he said, adding in this common endeavour, the two nations should "support and help each other".

"India and China, both wise and great nations, must co-operate with each other for development of world peace and prosperity", he said.

"Let us join hands to consolidate our friendly ties and co-operate and work together for peace, development and prosperity of the world", the Chinese leader said.
