THE BETTING SCANDAL
Jagmohan Dalmiya steps in for a late cut
The International Cricket Committee chairman has expressed shock at the admission of former South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje that he received money from a bookie.

South Africa orders full inquiry
Dr Ali Bacher further said they would co-operate fully with the Indian authorities in the investigation.

Officials in Delhi pleased
'Had a European country accused the South Africans, they would not have created such a noise, but because it is us Indians making the charges, they get upset, doubting our ability,' said an external affairs ministry official.

We have been vindicated, says police chief
'I am sorry for Hansie. Being a cricketer myself, I am fond of him and I am sorry that he had to go like this. But we had no axe to grind,' said Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma.

INTERVIEW
'Ayurveda actually lists milk as one of the five white poisons'
'Milk and blood come from the same source -- the body cells of the cow. Every time you drink a glass of milk, remember it comes from a sad, suffering mother whose own child was killed before her eyes and who herself will be killed when she dries up,' says Maneka Gandhi.

COLUMNS
Talks with Hurriyat could be NDA's harakiri
'It is difficult to believe when Advani insists the talks will be within the rigours of the Constitution. Since the Hurriyat doesn't recognise the constitutional position, what in the name of Ram is Advani trying to achieve?' wonders Arvind Lavakare.

If Indira was India, is Sonia soonya?
'Sonia Gandhi's fault, since taking over the party, was in mistaking electoral performance as the sole indicator of the Congress's health,' says Saisuresh Sivaswamy.

Fighting the neta, babu, lala, jhola and dada nexus
The initial momentum created by Chief Vigilance Commissioner N Vittal is already flagging, and unless he changes his game plan it could disappear altogether, says Sucheta Dalal.

Adios, Hansie, thanks for the memories
Sujata Prakash reacts with grief, and some nostalgia, to the exit of the South African captain.
