Which phones offer GPS capabilities?

July 16, 2008

Nokia is probably the leader when it comes to GPS phones. The Nokia N95 which was released in 2007 was among the first consumer phones with GPS available in India. Today several Nokia phones costing around Rs 17-20,000 have GPS; for example the N82, N78, E71 and the Nokia 6220.

Probably the least expensive GPS phone today is the Nokia Navigator 6110 which costs around Rs 13,000. Uniquely among Nokia phones it offers lifetime free navigation services. The phone is being heavily promoted by Nokia so if you go to a Nokia priority dealer you may be able to try a live unit and if you are lucky even obtain a live demonstration of its navigation capabilities in a car.

Nokia isn't the only option when it comes to GPS. HTC has several high-end smartphones like the P3300 with GPS and some newer models by Sony Ericsson, Samsung etc. will also carry the feature. The new version of the Apple iPhone also has GPS.
