A trekker's paradise
When my colleague Zubin asked if I was interested in hiking to Kumara Parvata I promptly agreed, despite the fact that I had no prior trekking experience.
Kumara Parvata on the Western Ghats is in Karnataka, about 100 km from Mangalore, and is supposed to be one of the most difficult treks in the state with a total to and fro trekking length of about 36 km.
• Airfare for Rs 599 and less!
Our trekking team also included Aveek, Arun, Ashok and Ajit. Only Arun had prior trekking experience but he too had never trekked to Kumara Parvata before.
We searched the Internet and got some useful information from Blogs. Not all information, I must say here, was helpful! For instance the list of items to carry included blankets which we didn't need at all!
After two days of extensive preparation, we took an overnight bus from Bangalore to Kukke Subramanya (about 280 km away), the starting point of the trek. We reached Kukke Subramanya at 5 am and rested for three hours before starting our trek to the first stop, Narayan Bhatt's house popularly known as Bhatta house.
