Partner up and exercise at home!

Doing the same exercises after a period of time can be boring. To liven things up, why not get an exercise mate? It can be your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend or just a friend. Having a partner can be fun and help in challenging and motivating each other.

Listed below are six basic and safe exercises that can be done at home.

Before you begin

What to wear

Wear comfortable exercise clothing like shorts or track pants with a tee shirt. Make sure you wear slim fitting clothes so that you can check your form while performing the exercise. Also wear a pair of comfortable sports shoes.

What to use

For the upper body exercises, you will need two resistance tubes -- one each for your partner and yourself. Buy a pair of Reebok resistance tubes (Level II). These tubes are available at any sports store.

Set up at home

You will need
~ A full-length mirror, wide enough so that you and your partner can watch yourselves.
~ Non-slippery flooring, or a carpet.
~ A ball -- any regular toy/ sports ball will do. If you really want to go all out, buy a 'medicine ball' from a sports store.
~ Enough ventilation, or an air conditioner.
~ Water to sip on between sessions.
~ Music for that added punch!

Warm Up

Before you begin your workout, warm up for seven to eight minutes by walking, jogging or climbing up and down stairs or even dancing; whichever is convenient for you. The pace should be slow to medium.

Points to note

~ It is very important to follow the instructions correctly to prevent injuries and also to make sure the exercises are effective.
~ Please consult your doctor before beginning this program.
~ Stop exercising if you feel any pain.
~ Some soreness after exercising is normal.
