PDP wins Pampore seat by huge margin

March 01, 2003 12:13 IST

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party's Zahoor Ahmad Mir on Saturday registered a resounding victory in the bypoll for the Pampore assembly constituency of Jammu and Kashmir, defeating National Conference rival Mushtaq Ahmad Kuchhay, official sources said.

The bypoll, necessitated by the killing of PDP MLA Abdul Aziz Mir by terrorists last December, was held on February 26.

Of the 51,681 voters in the constituency, 19,383 exercised their franchise.
