BSP wrests Gauriganj from Congress

The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party on Saturday won the by-election to the Gauriganj assembly seat in the Congress stronghold of Amethi, sources said.

Jang Bahadur of Chief Minister Mayawati's BSP got 38,722 votes as against Congress nominee Fateh Bahadur, who got 31,218 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Tej Bhan polled 27,157 votes while Samajwadi Party nominee Priyank Harvijay got 26,598.

The seat had fallen vacant following the death of Congress MLA Noor Mohammed.
