Mufti Mohammed Sayeed invited
to form government in J&K

Election 2002 Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was on Wednesday invited to form the new government in Jammu and Kashmir after the PDP chief submitted a list of 52 legislators to Governor G C Saxena.

The new government will be sworn in on Saturday, Saxena told reporters in Srinagar adding he was confident the new government would be able to prove its majority.

Saxena invited Sayeed after he, along with state Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, Panthers Party chief Bhim Singh and CPI-M leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, called on him and staked claim to form the government.

Azad submitted a list, which Sayeed said contained the names of 52 MLAs supporting his bid.

The PDP has 16, the Congress 20, Panthers Party 4, CPI-M two MLAs in the new assembly. The others supporting Sayeed are independents.
