Sayeed, Azad meet J&K governor,
stake claim to form govt

Election 2002 Chief minister-designate Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Wednesday met Jammu and Kashmir governor G C Saxena and staked claim to form a PDP-led coalition government in the state. Sayeed submitted a list of 52 MLAs supporting him.

The PDP president was accompanied by J&K Pradesh Congress president Ghulam Nabi Azad, among others.

Talking to reporters after meeting Saxena, Sayeed said his government would bring in the proposed ehtisaab (accountability) Bill aimed at ending the menace of corruption in the state.

Sayeed said the bill would cover even the office of the chief minister besides top bureaucrats.

Asked whether the bill would also cover the previous government, sayeed said, "When I said everyone, it means everyone."

About the size of the cabinet, Sayeed said we will ensure that all the three major regions of the state were duly represented.

Besides Azad, the would-be chief minister was accompanied by CPI-M leader Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami and Panthers' Party chief Bhim Singh.
