Zaheer Khan managed to bowl a superb opening spell for the first time in the tournament. He dismissed Matthew Hayden for 19, after the latter enjoyed two slices of luck, being dropped by VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh.

The series was not particularly good for Hayden, who managed just 170 runs in six matches, at an average of 34.00, with just one half-century.
