Moser-Baer building CD-R unit

from financial institutions such as International Finance Corporation, the Exim Bank of India and Exim Bank of the US, Puri said.

He said with the production of the latest CD-R in the country, users would be able to record and write on CDs. The CD-R would have a storage capacity of 640 mega bytes while the DVD, which is similar to a normal CD, would have storage capacity up to 18.8 giga bytes.

Puri said MBIL would have a flexible manufacturing facility, which would be capable of manufacturing a wide variety of products and formats within a short period of time.

MBIL, as part of the backward integration of the CD project, will set up a chemical dye mixing lab which will be utilised to manufacture the organic dye mixture used in decomposition layers of the CD-R.

The world demand for CD-Rs has increased from 10 million units in 1994 to over 180 million units in 1996 and the total demand is expected to touch 800 million units by 2000, with an annual growth rate of 30-40 per cent.
