Futurekids to expand India operation

Futurekids, a leading educational franchise operation, is expanding operations in India in association with the Madras-based Chettinad Group.

According to Annamalai Muthiah, who heads Futurekids India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Futurekids International of USA, "Futurekids will function as a franchise operation in India. We have acquired exclusive rights for India, Sri Lanka and Maldives. Five centres of Futurekids have been set up in Tamil Nadu as a pilot project and this has had a very good response."

He said Futurekids education centres target children in the age group of 4-14 and will be set up in residential neighbourhoods rather than commercial centres. He said that by the turn of the century, over 90 per cent of all jobs available will require some level of computer education.

The Futurekids curriculum has enabled over a million children to master computers in over 100 countries, he added.

Futurekids has been officially launched in Karnataka. A one-year course will consist of around 800 technology objectives and will cover Wordstar, spreadsheets, robotics and the Internet.

Muthiah said he expects around 100 centres to be set up in the country within the first year of operations.
