HCL Comnet to set up MTNL network

HCL Comnet Systems and Services Limited, the systems integration company of the HCL group, has been selected by the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited to design and implement an integrated wide area computer network in New Delhi and Bombay.

The WAN will link all the exchanges in New Delhi and Bombay, enabling free flow of information on a real-time basis. The network will connect MTNL's financial management systems, fault repair system, directory enquiry and interactive graphic systems.

At the front-end, these modules will be connected to customer service centres in New Delhi and Bombay, and the MTNL corporate office in the capital.

Through this network, MTNL will provide a single-window service to subscribers for payment of bills, transfer of telephones between exchanges and fault repair. Within the state-owned telecom services provider, the network will enable senior officials to access real-time information for decision making and accounting purposes.

The FMS will be installed on an area basis, while the FRS equipment will be set up at exchanges. The IGS will be used for planning and maintenance of external plant networks using geographical digitised maps. The network will be based on 64 kbps leased lines and will be equipped with a network management systems.
