IBM data storage products to be sold in India

IBM's data storage products will be available on non-IBM platforms too. A team from IBM's data storage division is in the country to talk with system integration companies to sign them on as business partners.

Julia Lee, programme manager, Asia Pacific, IBM Corporation, in charge of channel open systems marketing at the storage systems division, said: "The products should be launched in India in a couple of weeks."

Lee said many of IBM's data storage products could be used on any platform and this would help in better market acceptance. IBM's ADSM or Adstar Distributed Storage Management software is a case in point. It allows customers to manage all their data independent of platform.

Rajan Vardarajan, programme manager, open systems storage at IBM's storage systems division based at San Jose, US, said Big Blue is betting on what he said is the unique serial storage architecture, unlike the conventional SCSI architecture. "This architecture is going to be the industry standard," he claimed.

D V Jagadish, deputy general manager, marketing operations, Tata IBM, said that the telecom, finance and banking and the imaging segments would be the main markets for the data storage products, as also those implementing enterprise resource planning solutions.

"These segments are growing and as the need for data warehousing grows, the need in these segments for data storage will also grow," Jagadish said.
