Tatas unveil plans for future-ready office complex

The Tata Housing Development Company Limited has announced its latest project - Technopolis Knowledge Park - a 310,000 square feet 'future-ready' office complex with an advanced communications technology infrastructure.

The site is situated about 10 minutes drive away from Bombay's Sahar International Airport.

Announcing the launch, THDC Executive Director A D Rebello said that the project is actually meant for multinational companies wishing to expand or set up global and regional operations in India.

He explained that the complex would be of special significance to service oriented businesses like airlines, banking and insurance and knowledge-oriented industries such as information technology and telecom, entertainment software production and pharmaceutical research.

Construction at the site is scheduled to commence by next month and the project will be complete by 1999. A unique three-tier information architecture has been specially designed to meet the special global and internal communication needs of their computer intensive back office operations, telephone intensive businesses and their high-volume and high-speed data processing requirements.

A host of communication and computer facilities form the backbone of the Technopolis Knowledge Park. Significant features include conduiting for power transmission, telephone lines and computer networks to facilitate flexibility in office design and high wattage for optimal performance of business machines.

High-speed data networks (100 mbps) will allow shared computing, email, databases and value-added services, structured cabling with pre-wired copper and fibre optic cables for voice services and high-speed data services on the campus and quick inter-connectivity with the national telecommunications network.

With this, offices at the Technopolis Knowledge Park will have access not only to DoT and VSNL facilities but also to national and international data communications services/networks and value-added service providers for the Internet, EDI and other services.

Built to international standard to create a conducive environment for productive work, the wide-span column design of the Technopolis Knowledge Park will enable companies to freely configure interior space to suit changing business needs, Rebello claimed.

Technopolis Knowledge Park will also offer support facilities such as multipurpose conference/convention area, an ATM facility, restaurant, medical centre, courier services, fitness centre, swimming poll and adequate car park space.

Outlining the locational advantages of the project, Rebello said "With SEEPZ, Bollywood and two stock exchanges, Bombay is the services capital of India and corporate India's preferred city to do business. Strategically located at an upcoming commercial centre in close proximity to the international airport, a major suburban rail terminus and reasonably priced residential accommodation, Technopolis will help minimise daily commuting time for its employees thereby improving their quality of life and productivity."
