New Epson printers for Indian market

Epson Singapore Pte Limited, a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational Seiko-Epson Corporation Limited, has launched three new generation ink-jet printers in the Indian market.

These printers are based on the improved micro piezo technology that can lay down 1440 dots in every inch of print. The printers would be sold through three distributors-Godrej-Pacific, Wipro and Redington India Limited.

Mike Pleasants, senior marketing manager, IT products division of Epson in Singapore has said: "1,440 dots in every inch of print is the highest ever resolution offered by any such printer which means that these printers can deliver laser sharp text and images that are virtually indistinguishable from photographs."

Paresh Vora, country manager, Epson India office in Madras, said the company hopes to garner a 35 per cent market share in India over a span of 18 months. Overall, the target market for the three printers would include general business, corporations, network applications, design houses and advertising agencies.

The three new printers are the Epson Stylus Color 600 (Rs 19,950), the Epson Stylus Color 800 (Rs 24,950) and the Epson Stylus Color 1520 (Rs 49,950). The latter is an A2 (345 mm print width) printer capable of doing continuous stationery and banners. The other two are A4 printers.

According to the latest market reports, the number of colour ink-jet printers through dealer channels spurted by 98.7 per cent from 18,093 in 1995-96 to 35,965 in 1996-97 while ink-jet mono printers increased from 31,412 to 41,873.
