Hughes Escorts inks satellite pact with DoT

Hughes Escorts Communications Limited, a joint venture between Hughes Network Systems, Inc, and Escorts Limited, announced today that it has signed a licence agreement with the Department of Telecommunications to provide mesh and hybrid satellite communications services.

HECL is the first TDM/TDMA shared hub VSAT service provider to sign the agreement with the DoT though some other TDM/TDMA operator have received in-principle clearance.

This licence agreement is an amendment to HECL's existing licence to provide shared hub VSAT satellite communications services.

HECL will now introduce SCPC/DAMA and point-to-point data/voice pipe services from its shared hub earth station in Gurgaon, Near Delhi, using two more products from HNS' Integrated Satellite Business Network VSAT family, the tex quantum and the hybrid earth station.

The company has been providing TDM/TDMA service using the personal earth station product since February 1995.

HNECL is in the unique position of being the only operator in India who can provide both TDMA and DAMA technology on the same VSAT produce. The hybrid earth station integrates both PES and TES equipment to use the same dish antenna and radio systems, and is managed through a simple, centralised network management system, a press release of the company said here today.
