The Interconnected Stock Exchange of India Limited has awarded a contract worth Rs 70.7 million for supply, erection and commissioning of the computer system for the Interconnected Market System to the consortium
Indigo Technologies will be integrating the trading, clearing and settlement and risk management and surveillance system for the ISE. The system will be delivered in two phases - the first phase, covering all the essential features of the exchange operation by May 1998, and the second phase featuring formed trading and advance surveillance capabilities by October 1998. The Internet is a dangerous thing, says Gokak The advent of sophisticated telecommunication technology, including the Internet, has dangerous implications for the country, Telecom Commission Chairman A V Gokak has said. Delivering the keynote address at the 13th National Convention on the 'Role of electronics in telecommunication and broadcasting, consumer industry and medicine' at Bangalore, he said the advent of such technology would result in an increase in the number of crimes and violent incidents. Though the country has a sophisticated networking system, it lacks proper procedures. Moreover, analytical minds need to be encouraged to ensure optimum utilisation of available data and their proper dissemination, he added. He felt extensive use of personal computers and the Internet could ultimately reduce the thinking capacity of an individual. But the new technologies have also made the political leadership realise its responsibilities. Gokak said the implications of conversion of technology should be assimilated and deficiencies in transmission effectively tackled. "In the telecommunication department, experts feel they are yet to overcome this," he added. Tata Honeywell unveils Plantscape Tata Honeywell recently announced the launch of Plantscape, a hybrid control system that answers the need for cost-effective, flexible, hybrid control. The system finally brings to the Indian industrial automation industry a single automation system, designed to provide optimal results in all three classes of manufacturing, that is, continuous, discrete and batch. Traditional distributed control systems, focused on robust, dependable control for generally, very large-scale continuous process, but were not optimal for high-speed machine control typical of discrete applications or the sequential control of batch. The opposite was true of programmable logic controllers, which were ideal for fast logic, merely adequate for simple physical batch processes, but often lacked the robustness, advanced control capabilities and redundancies necessary in many process operations. Consequently, many manufacturers were forced to compromise by selecting one of these architectures to meet as many of their needs, as they could. |
