Paswan calls for telecom meeting

Minister of Communications Ram Vilas Paswan has convened a meeting of the heads of telecom circles to take stock of the various issues and field problems.

The minister will inaugurate the one-day conference on November 19.

Minister of State for Communications Tapan Sikdar and other senior officials of the departments of telecommunications and telecom services will be present.

The participants also include executive directors from Hindustan Teleprinters Limited, the Indian Telephone Industries Limited, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, Telecommunications Consultants India Limited, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited and the Centre for Development of Telematics.

According to an official release, the agenda for the conference includes among others, mid-year review of rural development and direct exchange lines programmes for 1999-2000, maintenance of village public telephones, progress of the introduction of new services such as Internet, integrated services digital network, intelligent network and mobile services.
