MNC brands continue to offer PCs based on the Celeron, Intel's basic microprocessor offering, at over Rs 40,000.

According to IMRB ITOPS '99, HCL leads the branded pc segment with a 12.9 per cent market share, more than that of all three of its nearest competitors - Compaq with 5.6 per cent, IBM with 3.6 per cent and HP with 2.6 per cent - put together, an HCL statement claimed.

Announcing the launch, A Mohan Rao, chief executive, Frontline Division, HCL Infosystems, said, ''Research has pointed out that two key criteria drive the consumer's PC purchase - price and the microprocessor. This launch is part of HCL's aggressive campaign to offer appropriate solutions to buyers at advantageous price point.''

Powered by the Intel Pentium Ii microprocessor, the Busybee is equipped with 32 MB SDRAM, a 4.3 GB UDMA hard disk, integrated sound card and a 4 MB AGP card.

The unit comprises a 14-inch SVGA colour monitor keyboard and mouse and comes preloaded with Windows 98. It is supported by a one-year on-site warranty, the statement said.
