Academics is just a part of the rigorous training schedule at the NDA which combines academics with physical training, drill, service training, sports and voluntary pursuits, NDA Commandant Lieutenant General S B S Kochar told reporters in Pune today.

In the 17-hour daily regimen of a cadet, academics constitute 57 per cent of the curriculum.

The NDA, which has extensive computer facilities, proposes to acquire more computers in order to extend the bachelor of computer science course to at least 75 per cent of the cadets, Kochar said.

The NDA also proposes to add one more squadron to raise the cadet strength by 125.

At present the cadet strength is 1,960 and the additional squadron will take the strength beyond 2,000.

Besides, the NDA proposes to train its cadets in advanced microlite gliding techniques. The NDA commandant has appealed to civilian authorities to curb the menace of encroachment on Pashan Road, which leads up the NDA campus.

On the sports front, the NDA proposes to prepare an Astroturf hockey field this year so as to host national tournaments, Kochar said.
