Kerala moots school of IT and management

Email this story to a friend. A School of Information Technology and Management, matching the academic standards of the famed Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Management, is being set up in Trivandrum at a cost of Rs 300 million.

A decision to this effect was taken today at a meeting of the state cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister E K Nayanar.

He told reporters after the meeting that the institute, which would function under department of information technology, would be located within the campus of Technopark at Kariavattom, on the outskirts of the city.

He said the participation of private agencies and also the profit making public sector organisations would be ensured in the project.

The institute would be an autonomous body under a board of experts in the field. It would be registered under the Companies Act.

Nayanar said the State Industrial Development Corporation has been appointed as the nodal agency for the project. It is expected to work out the details of the institute.
