Oracle Software India Country Manager Shekhar Dasgupta has been quoted as confirming that the US based parent company has made its first acquisition in India.

However, he refused to divulge any further details saying, "The deal, including the due diligence prior to it, has been done by Oracle Corp and I cannot say anything further at this moment.

The company is to make a formal announcement in this regard soon.

Still, according to industry sources, Oracle's acquisition of the Bangalore-based software company has also been done so as to have "more synergy" as both the companies are into computer software and applications.

The sources also pointed out that Oracle India's role in the acquisition was minimal with the probable exception of Oracle Corp routing the funds for acquisition through its 100 per cent subsidiary in India.

Meanwhile, Oracle plans to generate about Rs 3 billion of business over the next few years from India from business-to-business e-commerce solutions which companies would be needing to build long-term sustainable competitive advantage.

Oracle Corp is also in discussion with several Indian companies, but is awaiting a final clearance from the government on the policy.
