Tamil keyboard, word processor releasedTwo companies have developed a Tamil keyboard and a word processor based on international standards.
This will now enable people to send Tamil email and use the language for general computing purposes.
The products were presented to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today.
Accepting the Tamil software and appreciating the efforts of the software firms Suvita and Association of Tamil Software Developers, Karunanidhi said administrative work in Tamil should be first computerised in Thiruvarur district and later in other districts.
Suvita Tamil word processor for the Windows operating system has functionalities of MS Word, Word Perfect and Word Star packages and uses standardised fonts.
It also has facilities like spell check, grammar check, Tamil and English dictionaries. The software was developed within 10 days of the state government accepting the standardised coding procedure for Tamil computer software on June 13.
These developments followed a Tamilnet Conference organised in the Madras in February.
