Tamil Nadu sets up its own IT task force

The task force is headed by the chief minister himself and comprises representatives of leading software and electronics organisations.

Among them are NASSCOM, Futures Software, TVS Electronics, Tata Consultancy Services and Infotech Spares.

Former union industries minister Murasoli Maran, senior officials including Chief Secretary A P Muthuswamy and academicians including Professor C R Muthukrishnan, the deputy director of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and Professor M Anandakrishnan, the former Anna University vice-chancellor, are all on the task force.

Karunanidhi also set up a 10-member sub-committee on development of Tamil software to be headed by Professor Anandakrishnan.

Tamil Nadu has been making concerted efforts to attract investment in the infotech sector. For this, Karunanidhi had convened a meeting of top software companies on September 4.

The state government has also created a separate infotech department to introduce the concept of electronic governance by introducing hi-tech communication systems, including the Internet in administration. It has launched the TIDEL Software Park and the TANITEC, an institute to train information of technology experts.
