Due to the token strike, services such as trunk calls, overseas calls, repairs of telephones, and issue and receipt of bills will be paralysed.

Yesterday, a delegation of MTNL employees led by Shiv Sena deputy leader and MLC Arvind Sawant, who is also the general secretary of the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Kamgar Sangh met MTNL Chairman and Managing Director Rajgopalan and discussed the issue.

Earlier on May 10, when Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj was here, the delegation appraised her of their demands.

The delegation apprised the management of several issues like absorption of DoT. Employees in MTNL, who are working in MTNL on deemed deputation basis since April 1986 without deputation allowance and allot the quota of shares of MTNL to the employees of MTNL as per the guidelines of Securities and Exchange Board of India and government.

But the decisions of the meeting such as corporatisation of DoT in principle will be announced. After that the first phase of ending the deemed deputation status of MTNL employees will begin by absorbing all grade 'c' and 'd' employees who have been recruited for MTNL Bombay and Delhi units.

Also, the issue of pricing of the employees' share will be immediately taken up with the cabinet.

Since April 1986, a number of such assurances have been given to the employees but nobody has fulfilled them. The most agonising aspect of the above decisions, the absorption of MTNL employees is linked with the announcement of the corporatisation of Do.

It means unless the said announcement is done, the employees working in MTNL will not be absorbed, a release said.
