BT launches global communication services in India

BT Worldwide Ltd has launched its second generation of global communication services - Concert Frame Relay - in India.

Concert, said company sources, would be made available to the first global network to be launched internationally. The service is to be made available to both multinational and domestic firms from June and nodes have been set up at Bombay, Delhi, Madras and Calcutta.

Concert supports e-mail, transfer of large files and time-sensitive applications. Company sources said their services will help international companies hoping to do business with companies in the country as well as Indian firms seeking an advantage abroad.

The company's current Indian customers include Whirlpool India, Credit Lyonnaise, Johnson & Johnson, Arthur Anderssen, Ciba Geigy, Essar Steel and Crompton Greaves.

Sources said the company was hoping to make great strides in 1998, with the $ 670 global communications market growing all the time.
