HP rules server, desktop market in Asia-Pacific region

Hewlett Packard has the highest growth in the PC server market in the Asia-Pacific region, according to International Data Corporation, an international IT market research organisation.

HP has a share of 23.3 per cent of the market in the last quarter of 1997, with IBM and Compaq trailing.

In the commercial desktop category, HP has done even better, with a share of 56.6 per cent growth over its 1996 figures.

HP's Indian arm, HP India, has also made progress, with a kitty of customers that include Reliance, State Bank of India, Mahindra and Mahindra, even the Central Bureau of Investigation. HP India is essentially an export-oriented development laboratory to provide software solutions.
