Maritime industry warms to global expo in Goa

India's first-ever international exhibition and conference on maritime industry will be held from October 6 in Panaji.

More than 20 countries are expected to participate. Around 30 speakers of international repute are expected to share their views.

The event will focus on the theme Maritime 2000. Thrust would be on upgradation of the existing ports through joint ventures.

Marine industry-related firms are expected to clinch deals and joint ventures with foreign companies keen on investing in India.

Former naval chiefs Admiral O S Dawson and Admiral Jayant Nadkarni are heading the organising committee and advisory board respectively.

Shipyards, shipbuilders, boat builders, fisheries sector, port infrastructure segment, equipment manufacturers, navigation software developers, dredging companies, government and private port operators and marine-related associations from India and abroad are expected to show up.

The are expected from Australia, Finland, Scotland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, France, South Korea, the USA, Mauritius, Russia, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, the Netherlands, Germany, China, Japan, the UAE and the neighbouring Sri Lanka.

The Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Union surface transport ministry and VSNL are also expected to make their presence felt.

The maritime industry has been growing at 40 per cent annually.

Issues related to ports, harbours, transportation, trade shipping, ship-building and ocean resources would be debated by some 700 delegates.

The event is being organised by Pradeep Deviah and Associates.
