The Securities and Exchange Board of India has announced that a committee on Internet-based securities trading will set up two sub-committees to finalise norms and regulations.

"The first working group would look into the standardisation of interface and security protocols for Internet trading at various levels," SEBI said in a statement.

It will be headed by D B Phatak from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay and will have representatives from the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange and the Calcutta Stock Exchange, departments of commerce, electronics and telecommunications and the Reserve Bank of India.

The second group led by L K Singhvi, SEBI's senior executive director, will examine surveillance and monitoring related issues.
