Statistical Highlights 27th match: Sri Lanka v Kenya at Southampton on 30-5-1999

This match was Sri Lanka's 302nd and Kenya's 30th in LOIs.

This match was Sri Lanka's 36th and Kenya's 11th in WC.

This match was the third meeting between the two sides in LOIs and their only second in the WC.

The County Cricket Ground, Northlands at Southampton (Hampshire) was hosting its third LOI & WC match. The New Zealand-West Indies WC encounter was held here on 24-5-1999.

The 64 run partnership between Mahela Jayawardene and Chaminda Vaas was Sri Lanka's best for the eight wicket in the WC. The previous best was the 54 - which was achieved twice by Guy de Alwis and Somachandra deSilva against Pakistan at Swansea on 9-6-1983 and between de Alwis and Ashanta de Mel against England at Taunton on 11-6-1983.

The partnership was also the highest for the eight wicket against Kenya in LOIs. The previous best was the 25 run partnership by Hafiz ur Rehman and Sheikh Salahuddin at Nairobi (Aga) on 15-10-1997.

Thomas Odoyo's three wickets for 56 was the best figures by a Kenyan against Sri Lanka in LOIs. Edward Odumbe had figures of 2-29 at Nairobi (Gym) on 28-9-1996.

Odoyo's three wickets takes his tally to 27 wickets, which was the maximum taken by any Kenyan or by a non-Test playing nation bowler in LOIs. He betters the previous record of 25 wickets held by Bangladeshi Hasib ul Hussain. He also surpassed the Kenyan record of 24 wickets by Aasif Karim.

Sri Lanka's total of 275-5 was the highest at this venue in a LOI. The previous highest being the 272 by Australia (in 60 overs) against Zimbabwe on 16-6-1983.

Steve Tikolo has now taken his tally of runs to 855 to become the highest scorer for Kenya and also among any batsman in the non-Test playing countries. The previous highest was 843 by team-mate Kennedy Otieno. The 161 run partnership for the sixth wicket between Maurice Odumbe and Alpesh Vadher.

was the all-time highest ever partnership for the sixth wicket in LOIs. The previous highest was the 154 run partnership between West Indian Richie Richardson and Jeff Dujon against Pakistan at Sharjah on 21-10-1991.

was the highest ever for the sixth wicket in the WC. The previous highest was the 144 by Pakistanis Imran Khan and Shahid Mahboob also against Sri Lanka at Leeds on 16-6-1983.

was Kenya's second highest for any wicket in LOIs. The best remains as 225 for the first wicket between Dipak Chudasama and Otieno against Bangladesh at Nairobi on 10-10-1997.

was Kenya's highest in a WC match bettering the previous best of 137 for the fourth wicket also against Sri Lanka at Kandy on 6-3-1996.

was Kenya's best for the sixth wicket in LOIs and in the WC. The previous best was the 42 between the Odumbe brothers - Maurice and Edward against Zimbabwe at Patna on 27-2-1996.

The Man of the match award was the third for Maurice Odumbe in his 30th LOI match. He now equals the record of Steve Tikolo with the maximum such awards for Kenya in LOIs

. Odumbe became the first Kenyan to win two awards in the WC. Tikolo has one to his credit in the WC.
