Scorecard | Australia innings
Just when the West Indies looked steady they lost two wickets in the space of three overs.
Sarwan was out to a reckless shot; charging down to Brad Hogg, he swatted the ball straight to Ricky Ponting at mid-wicket. The fourth wicket partnership between him and the West Indies captain was worth 71 runs and came off 15.4 overs (91-4).
The young Dwayne Bravo was a man in a hurry. Facing a delivery from McGrath, Bravo punched the ball down to the straight boundary; the next ball he dashed down for an improbable single. Going for another drive off McGrath, Bravo helped the ball to Ricky Ponting at cover. (107-5)
Though McGrath is not as effective in the shorter version of the game, playing his last ODI tournament, he proved why he is still such an important cog in the Australian bowling attack. He wasn’t as miserly as expected and did give the batsmen a few freebies, but provided the breakthroughs for his side.
