Statistical highlights - Holl v Nam

Mohandas Menon | March 04, 2003 21:08 IST

Holland v Namibia, Bloemfontein

  • Feiko Kloppenburg (121) now has the distinction of becoming the first Dutch batsman to record a three figure score in ODIs. Teammate Klaas-Jan van Noortwijk's 64 (against England at Peshawar on 22-22-1996) was the previous highest was Holland. However van Noortwijk, later in the innings, regained the record while scoring an unbeaten 134.
  • Holland became the second team to register two hundreds in the same match against Namibia, after India had two against the latter at Pietermaritzburg on 23-2-2003.
  • The 228 run partnership between Kloppenburg and van Noortwijk was third highest for the 2nd wicket in the WC. The top two partnerships of 318 and 244, respectively are held by Indians - Sourav Ganguly & Rahul Dravid (v Sri Lanka in 1999) and Sachin Tendulkar & Dravid (v Namibia in 2003).
  • The above partnership was Holland only second 100-plus stand in ODIs. Van Noortwijk & Bas Zuiderent had put on 114 for the 5th wicket against England at Peshawar on 22-2-2003. For the record, Holland's previous best for the 2nd wicket was the 74 runs between Flavian Aponso and Peter Cantrell against UAE at Lahore on 1-3-1996.
  • The 228 run stand was also the best for any wicket at this ground obliterating the previous best of 170 runs also for the 2nd wicket between Sri Lankans Sanath Jayasuriya and Hashan Tillakaratne against New Zealand on 10-2-2003.
  • Van Noortwijk's unbeaten 134, has taken his run aggregate to 322 (avg. 46.00) in 9 matches, which makes the highest run-getter for Holland in ODIs. He went past the tally of 243 runs of teammate Tim de Leede.
  • Holland's 314-4 was the second highest score by any non-Test playing nation in ODIs. Kenya's 347-3 against Bangladesh at Nairobi Gymkhana on 10-10-1997 remains the highest.
  • However, Holland's total was the highest by an associate member in the WC. Zimbabwe had made 312-4 (in 50 overs) against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth in 1992.
  • This total was by far Holland's highest in ODIs eclipsing the previous best of 230-6 (in 50 overs) against England at Peshawar on 22-2-1996.
  • The above total was also the highest at this venue surpassing the previous highest of 310-6 by the home team against Australia on 13-4-1997.
  • The partnership of 76 runs between Andries Burger and Morne Karg was Namibia's best for the first wicket in ODIs. The pair betters the previous best stand of 19 runs between Andries Burger and Stephan Swanepoel against India at Pietermaritzburg on 23-2-2003.
  • Feiko Kloppenburg (121 & 4-42) became the only sixth player in ODI history to do the all-rounder's double of scoring a hundred and taking four or more wickets in the same match. West Indian Viv Richards (119 & 5-51 v New Zealand at Dunedin on 18-3-1987) is the only one to do the rare double of 100 runs and 5 wickets, among these six players. However, Kloppenburg became the first all-rounder to score a hundred and take four wickets in the WC. Sri Lankan Aravinda deSilva (107 not out, 3-42 v Australia at Lahore on 17-3-1996) previously had the best all-round performance in a WC match.
