Karzai to visit Washington on January 28

The leader of the interim government in Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, will visit the United States and meet President George W Bush on January 28, the White House said in a statement on Thursday.

"This visit provides an opportunity to develop the US partnership with Afghanistan to eliminate terrorism and build a stable Afghanistan," the statement said.

"We look forward to an Afghanistan that is prosperous, accountable to its citizens, and at peace with its neighbours and the international community," it said.
