Top Northern Alliance leader quits
Bonn talks

A senior Northern Alliance official had walked out of the United Nations-sponsored conference of Afghan factions in Bonn, Germany, following a dispute with his partners, diplomats said on Friday.

Abdul Haji Qadir, the governor of the eastern Afghan province of Nangahar, walked out after "strong disagreements" emerged within the Northern Alliance camp.

"He has left. We are sorry to see him go, but the show must go on," United Nations spokesman Ahmad Fawzi told a news agency.

"We hope he will participate in any future administration of Afghanistan," he said.

"There were strong disagreements with his partners. He was not very happy with the composition of the delegation," added a diplomatic source. "But the talks are going on and it does not affect their progress."

Qadir was the number-two in the 28-member Northern Alliance delegation, which was dominated by Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazaras.
