Rumsfeld to arrive in India on November 5

As part of a high-level interaction between the two countries, United States Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is arriving in India on November 5 on a lightning visit.

Rumsfeld, who is leaving Washington on Thursday night on a hurricane tour of Russia and Central Asia, will reach New Delhi in the small hours of November 5 from Islamabad, sources said.

He will meet Defence Minister George Fernandes and discuss the current situation in the region in the light of continuing United States strikes in Afghanistan.

The long-term Indo-U S defence cooperation is also likely to figure in their discussions.

In Central Asia, Rumsfeld may be visiting Turkmenistan.
