There are several ways to gain information about train arrivals and departures, the reservation position, for a train, by telephone, in the main metros of India -- Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta and Madras. There are voice automated response numbers to dial for each of these metros to find out if one's ticket has been confirmed. The telephone numbers are listed city by city below:

Bombay
- For enquiries on arrivals and departures for Central Railways passengers there is a computerised interactive voice response service.
  Dial 2656565 and a voice will ask you to dial 0. After dialling 0, dial the number of the train. You will receive the required information instantly.
- For enquiries on the reservation status for Central Railways dial 022-2695959 and for Western Railways, dial 022-131.
- For general enquiries on distance, fare, connections, etc, dial 022-134.
- For computerised reservation status enquiry, dial 022-2635959, 135.
- For enquiries about arrivals from South Indian destinations like Madras, Bangalore, Secunderbad, Pune, Solapur, Kolhapur etc, dial 022-136.
