McDonald's has opened an outlet in South Bombay at the New Empire theatre.

The fast food outlet is housed on the premises of the wellknown Irani restaurant, New Empire Hotel, opposite VT station. The location, though noisy, is rather charming, with some of the tables laid out on the terrace outside as well. The restaurant seats 150.

The outlet has a separate take away counter where the wait period is about 15 to 20 minutes on busy days. The counter faces New Empire which makes having a Mac snack during intermission very convenient for Empire movie-goers. Sterling and Excelsior movie-buffs would have to jog over however.

Leonara, a roadside restaurant on the Panjim-Margao national highway, about five kms north of Margao, on NH 17, now has added services -- an art gallery, a plant nursery and weekend theme nights, besides a pub and three restaurants.

Divided into five different sections, Coconut Grove serves quick bites, hamburgers and other fast food. King's Pub provides drinks. The main Leonara restaurant serves up full meals. Grilled delights are available at the roof garden restaurant Village Inn.

Theme nights take place at the Albert hall every Saturday -- a bit of disco, Portuguese night, 60s night, karaoke night, rock n roll night and a Goan night, in rotation.

The attached art gallery exhibits European and Indian paintings, also by various local artists, priced quite reasonably price. The gallery specialises in wood carvings, metal engravings, etchings and inlays. Pottery, a speciality of Goa, is also on display and sale -- decorative pots, show case pieces, terracotta pots and vases, figurines, as well as utility items like ash trays.

The nursery is equipped with indoor and outdoor plants, exotic and common plants, flowering plants, fruit trees, vegetable plants, special graftings, seedlings and bouganvillas.
