Arunachal Pradesh is the easternmost state of India. And also one of the remotest. Closed to tourism until recently, it is now possible to visit the state after obtaining an entry permit from certain designated offices in New Delhi and Calcutta. Foreign passport holders and Indian citizens must carry permits to enter the state.

Travel agent and tour companies can obtain a permit for you too.

Indian Airlines flies three times a day from Calcutta to Guwahati in neighbouring Assam. The fare US $ 70. Itanagar, the capital of the state, is nine hours away from Guwahati by road. Several trains from the New Delhi terminate at North Lakhimpur in Assam, 60 km from Itanagar. From there it is possible to take the Arunachal Express to Itanagar or hire a taxi.
