Defender Gurjit Kaur struck twice as India’s women's hockey team got its Commonwealth Games campaign back on track with a 4-1 thrashing of Malaysia in its second Pool A match on Friday.
Kaur scored twice, in the 6th and 39th minute, from the three penalty-corners India forced, while skipper Rani Pampal and Lalremsiami added to the tally with field goals in the 56th and 59th minute respectively.
Having lost to Wales 2-3 in their opening match on Thursday, the Indian girls were more purposeful and went on the attack from the start. After Gurjit opened the tally early in the match there was nothing the Malaysians could do to contain the rampaging forwards.
Malaysia's lone goal, in the 38th minute, was scored by Nuraini Rashid from a penalty-corner.
India, who finished fifth in the last two editions of the Games, will play England next, on April 8.
