Cup at a glance

The 2002 World Cup ushered in several firsts:

1 - It marked the first time the World Cup was co-hosted.

Hakan Sukur

2 - The fastest goal: 11th second. Scored by Hakan Sukur of
       Turkey against South Korea in the play-off for the third
       and fourth place.

3 - The latest goal: 126th minute. Scored by Ahn Jung-Hwan
       of South Korea versus Italy in the pre-quarter final.

4 - The highest number of cards in a Cup match: 16 yellow
       and two red, shown by referee Antonio Lopez Nieto, in the
       group E match between Cameroon
       and Germany.

5 - Bora Milutinovic became the first coach in Cup history to
       lead five different countries: Mexico in '86, Costa Rica in '90, United States in '94, Nigeria in '98
       and China in 2002.

6 - Guus Hiddink became the first coach to lead 2 countries to the semi-finals of the Cup,
       back-to-back. Holland in 98 and South Korea in 2002.

7 - Cafu of Brazil became the first player to feature in three consecutive Cup finals.

8 - France became the first reigning champions not to score at the Cup.

9 - Claudio Canniggia of Argentina became the first player to get a red card while on the bench.

10 - The first time 2 Asian nations (South Korea and Japan) made it to the semi-finals of the Cup.
