India wins gold in kabaddi

M R Mishra

Defending champions India beat Pakistan 37-7 in the last league match to win the kabaddi gold medal at the Asian Games in Busan on MOnday.

This was India's third gold at the ongoing Games in Busan.

India, who had won gold medals in kabaddi the last three editions of the Games, had no difficulty in prevailing over Pakistan and registering their fifth successive victory in the competition.

The Indians had defeated Malaysia, Japan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka by huge margins in their first four round-robin league matches.

India, who were leading 23-4 at half-time, gave little chance to the opposition in the second half as well, claiming 14 points as against three by Pakistan.

Bangladesh won the silver medal while Pakistan took the bronze.
