India crash out of team tennis

India crashed out of the men's team tennis event at the Asian Games, going down to Uzbekistan 0-3 in the quarter-finals in Busan on Friday.

Bronze medallists at the last Asiad in Bangkok, the Indians surprisingly caved in tamely in the singles event.

India's best bet Leander Paes failed to live up to expectations and was defeated by Vadim Kutsenko in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.

In the second singles, Rohan Bopanna put up a fight before going down 5-7, 2-6.

The doubles match was a close affair but the Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Sunil Kumar Sipaeya were outlasted by Dmitriy Tomashevich and Vadim Kutsenko 6-1, 4-6, 7-6.

The story was as bad for the Indians in the women's event too as they were beaten by Chinese Taipei 2-0.

Sania Mirza was beaten by Lee Janet Whids 6-4, 6-7, 2-6 while Nirupama Vaidyanathan went down to Hsieh Su Wei 4-6, 1-6.
