Anju finishes fifth at Doha Super GP

Anju Bobby George jumped her season's best mark of 6.55m but finished fifth at the Super Grand Prix event in Doha on Friday.

Anju was way below her personal best of 6.83m, which she recorded at the 2004 Athens Olympics, but had the satisfaction of finishing in the top half of star-studded field at the Qatar Sports Club last evening.

She also finished ahead of American Funmi Jimoh, who had the season's second best jump of 6.91m.

Current world champion and Athens Olympics [Images] bronze winner Tatiyana Kotova of Russia [Images] won the gold with a leapt of 6.83m while Brazillian Maurren Higa Maggi (6.75m) and Jamaican Chelsea Hammond (6.69m) took silver and bronze respectively.

Anju, whose next best effort this season came in SAF Athletics Meet in Kochi in March where he jumped 6.50m, will compete in a series events in the European circuit before heading for Beijing [Images] Olympics in August.
