Gagan Narang had to settle for a silver medal in the men's 50m rifle prone event at the Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait on Monday.

Narang fired 595 out of 600 to be tied with Zhando Jia of China in the qualifying round but managed only 100.7 points in the final to be far behind the winner.

Jia shot 105.0 to win the competition while Duk Bing of Korea got the bronze medal with a score of 591+103.7.

Narang along with Sanjeev Rajput (589) and Surendra Singh Rathore (584) helped the Indian team to win the silver medal with a total of 1768. China claimed the gold medal with an aggregate of (1770) while bronze went to Japan [Images] (1766).

India has so far won four gold medals, eight silver and 10 bronze in the event, however, none of its shooters could book an Olympic berth in the last chance to qualify for the next year's quadranniel sporting extravaganza to be held in Beijing [Images].
