Sania Mirza followed up her singles success with a convincing first-round win in the doubles as she and Bethanie Mattek defeated Severine Bremond of France and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia at the US Open in New York on Thursday.

They will face Jarmila Gajdosova of Slovakia and Bryamne Stewart of Australia in the second round.
Leander Paes, who suffered a first-round loss in men's doubles, and Meghann Shaughnessy of United States reached the second round of mixed doubles, beating Janette Husarova of Slovakia and Pavel Vizner of Czech Republic 7-5, 6-3.
