Railway cueist Kamal Chawla sprang a big surprise when he rallied from 2-3 down to eliminate Aditya Mehta 4-3 to make his entry into the snooker semi-final of the Rs 4.25 lakh Shivaji Park Gymkhana All India Open Invitation tournament on Saturday.

The Bhopal-based Chawla was bit tentative in the initial stages before gradually finding his bearing to win 17-64, 85-31, 73-36, 15-67, 31-100, 80-51, 49-40.

In another quarter final, Delhi-based Manan Chandra ousted local player Rupesh Shah 4-1.

Former World Professional Champion Geet Sethi outclassed PSCB's Devendra Joshi, the current national billiards champion, 1296-692 in the final of the three-ball game last night to pocket the winner's purse of Rs 40,000.
