Samresh bags third gold in Australia

Samresh Jung and Gagan Narang won gold medals on the second day running at the Australia Cup shooting championships in Melbourne to help India add three gold, one silver and one bronze medal to their tally on Monday.

Samresh fired 664.4 (565+99.4) in men's free pistol event to win his third gold medal at the championships and set a new national mark in the process.

Vivek Singh won the bronze in the same event with an effort of 552+94.8.

Gagan won his second gold with a score of 597+103.2 in the men's air rifle event. Abhinav Bindra shot 593/600 and failed to finish in the medal bracket.

In the women's section, Tejaswini [Images] Sawant edged past Olympian Anjali Bhagwat to win the gold after the two Maharashtra girls shot identical scores of 499.3 in the air rifle event.

Tejaswini scored 397+102.3 and Anjali tallied 398+101.3 but the former proved to be better in tie shoot with 10.6 points against the latter's 10.5.

India's total medal tally reads 11-5-2 in the competition where shooters from four countries are contesting.
