Manchester United [Images] have until Friday to appeal against likely three-match Premier League bans for Wayne Rooney [Images] and Paul Scholes.

The Football Association received late on Wednesday the referee's report from the Dutch FA into the pair's dismissals during last week's friendly against Porto in Amsterdam.

They are due to miss games against Charlton Athletic, Watford and Tottenham Hotspur, though because of the delay in receiving the report they are free to play in the season-opener against Fulham on August 20.

United have indicated that they are planning to appeal against the charges.
